Rock pipits? near Lizard Point, Cornwall, UK (1 Viewer)

These photos are of 2 different birds seen on clifftop meadows near Lizard Point, Cornwall on 5th April. I think they are Rock Pipits but largely because the markings seem dark and smudged and the legs look brownish with no pink. Is anyone able to confirm (or correct) my ID.
Thanks very much.
Phil

I think photo 2 is a Meadow pipit. Rock pipit for the other photos ok.
Mick

I wondered a little at photo 2, but from the way the original post is worded and the photos are numbered, photo 2 is the same bird as photo 1, unless I've picked the OP up wrong. I would be undecided on the bird in photo 2 if it were the only evidence.

1 and 2 are definitely not the same individual - look at the light and dark markings in the throat area. I'd agree 2 looks more like a Meadow, though pipits are definitely not my strongest point...

One "easy" way to tell is the complete white eye-ring on the Meadow Pipit in photo 2, compared to the broken eye-ring of the Rock Pipits. Although this doesn't always work in Rock Pipits it does in these photos.

Cheers

Roy
