hi a freind of mine has a canon 40d and a sigma 170-500 being working well sudenly the auto focus has stop on the lense ,i tried on my camera still no joy any idea
 
Sounds like the lens is broken to me. Could just be the contacts on the lens need a good clean though but if that doesn't work then it'll be something more serious that will require then lens get sent off to a repair facility.
