In Yorkshire next week and time to visit either Potteric Carr or Fairburn Ings or St Aidens. Any thoughts welcome

They're all worth a visit depending on what you want to see. Being biased I'd say Swillington Ings (St Aidan's for the new crowd). ;)

A bit further down the M1 is Old Moor (jct36). Plenty of other nearby sites too but probably an area worth a whole day in; one to save for the future if you're visiting further north this time.

A bit late this for which I apologise.
Thank you all for the suggestions. In the end we went to Fairburn Ings where we failed to see the black necked grebes. We were well compensated though with a bittern and a whooper swan.Added to that we saw a couple of ring ouzels in Derbyshire and lots of sea birds at Bempton.
Regards
Peter
