ED 50 angled or straight? (1 Viewer)

Hi
After 7 years without using a scope (just 8x32 bins)- I have finally decided to buy a Nikon ED 50 for travelling (so light). Now I have a couple of questions. Do the Culman shoulder pods or Grippa really work - or do you end up using a tripod? If so which one (or is it a mono-pod for weight)?

And, if the answer to the Q above is "you don't need a tripod" - do you go for straight (my instinct would have been angled)?

Thanks
