Nice work Bob O, Bob P, Bob R, Jim B, Paul M, Peter E, Ray C, Terry WB :)
Also a large patch of himalyan balsam was removed from the sluice basin.

Survey Today at Flashes

A lot of discussion about more monitoring of water levels , salinity, saltmarsh and the reed expansion, density of invertebrates in the main feeding zones.
Things are not set in stone, so we will not get the definitive remedial action for a while. Suffice to say that dropping the overall water level is not necessarily the way forward. Salt plants have colonised the spit in front of the hide. The graduating of the 'delta' steep banks couple of years ago is really paying dividends, there is now a well established saltmarsh community covering it.

The 3rd Flash has doubled its width in the last 10 years and has a very inviting muddy shoreline - unfortunately not always viewable from the hide.

The reed beds however are spreading and this is a real cause of concern.

5. the saltmarsh in front of the hide, last year this was just bare ground.

Very similar at 7:45, plus 13 Curlew. Didn't see the Redstart though. .

Has anyone got any ideas as to what's wrong with the adult Avocet which keeps almost falling over? I noticed it last month trying to sit down, but it kept wobbling and then standing up again. Today it was trying to preen it's feathers and again was wobbling and staggering around.

An adult bird came in a couple of weeks ago from elsewhere with 2 juveniles. I saw the family of 5 yesterday and an adult and juv but never noticed it falling over.
