As we approach the Bank Holiday weekend and the last few days of August, the month's list has progressed to 101 species. Potential last minute additions include (year ticks in bold as usual):

Pochard, Garganey, Wigeon, Golden Plover, Ringed Plover, Little Stint, Curlew Sandpiper, Wood Sandpiper, Redshank, Spotted Redshank, Sandwich Tern, Barn Owl, Tawny Owl, Little Owl, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Meadow Pipit, Stonechat, Whinchat, Mistle Thrush, Coal Tit, House Sparrow, Yellowhammer

Mind you Roseate Tern wasn't on anyone's anticipation list ....:scribe:

Cheers Rich - sounds like it lingered for a few hours then. Only the second record this year.

Yes seems like it although as we were looking at Kim's pics something large and high up was being mobbed by a lot of birds. Neither myself, Kim or Trevor could ID it so you never know. That was around 7.30.

Gert reports from the Flashes this morning:

3 Ruff, 1 Dunlin, 2 Common Sandpiper, 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 Avocet (will they hang on for the All-Dayer?), adult & juv Common Tern, lots of warblers including Whitethroat

BIKING BIRDER UPDATE
Gary had just broken the British Green Birding record with his 252nd species of the year, a Greenish Warbler on North Ronaldsay

Moors - Osprey 27/08/2015

A few record shots of the Osprey [?] from yesterday afternoon at the Moors. Thanks to Richard and Trevor for correcting an earlier mis-identification of the bird by another occupant of the hide as seen in real time when concentrating on getting the photos. Maybe we could not quite bring ourselves to believe it was actually an Osprey. Anyway it was present in front of the Moors west hides between approximately 16.45 and 17.00 before flying off in a south-easterly direction. These photos taken from the concrete hide with what was the poorer view as anybody in the top floor of the other hide would have had an even better view. Nothing much else going on at the time so the surprise visit of an Osprey - what can I say.
Absolute confirmation of ID and M or F would be good if someone would be kind enough. Thanks.

Well, it's definitely an Osprey. Nice photos. It appears it was at the flashes prior to this sighting with entries in the log book for 14.55 and 16.44. No sign by the time I arrived at the Sailing Pool at 19.00.
