Humming Birds in Colorado (1 Viewer)

Hi guys!

If you ignore the wings to tail proportions with image 2 appearing to show equality for both, with image 1 showing a slightly longer tail (variability in all things), and image 3 showing a flattened tail, what other clinchers are there for Broad-tailed ?

Cheers

Ken,

I am going mostly by plumage characteristics for #2-3. Sibley 2013 shows Broad-tailed having a more flared gorget at the sides. I don't think Black-chinned should show such pink/red coloring, especially so far up the gorget. In the same guide, Sibley states and illustrates that Broad-tailed has a "white line from chin to eyering to neck" (direct quote). I think this is well shown in image #2.
