Zeiss RF’s 2018 Model Question (1 Viewer)

Ok. It seems I’m on a roll with post here lately. I have bins coming out my ears it would appear. Just received a pair of Zeiss RF 10x42’s. Seem pretty decent. Not going to get into too much optically here but....I can’t help but notice the right barrel seems to be noticeably darker than the left. So much so that it makes my eyes strain. Has become an annoyance. Would this be due to the rangefinder in particular? My Swaro ELs are optically identical right to left barrel even with the rangefinder in them. I see when I look through the right side from the objective end theres square shape line inside them. I see nothing in the EL range. Could this be causing the noticeable difference in brightness?

We also see this phenomenon when measuring the transmissison spectra of both tubes i the Zeiss rangefinders : one tube has a considerable lower transmission than the other. The cause is the beamsplitter which Zeiss uses to direct part of the incoming light to the detector. This beamsplitter consists of a transparent mirror type device which takes away about 10 or more % of the transmitted light. It is a choice Zeiss has made before in other RF binoculars. When used with both eyes, our brain succeeds to average out that difference fairly well. I hoop to publish the test report with a picture of this beamsplitter soon.

As I commented in your other thread, I have these, 2018 Victory RF 10x42, and I simply can't detect any brightness loss in the right tube. I know its there, I've read about it, and I can also see that black outlined square you mentioned when looking from the objective end, but I simply can't detect any difference when using them. Just goes to reinforce how we all perceive and see things differently, especially when comparing bins.

I like my Victory RF's so much that I sold a pair of 8.5x42 EL SV and use the RF's exclusively. Truly a fantastic piece of gear... but it better be for the high msrp.
