  1. Marooned?

    Marooned?

Out on an ice raft, at any rate. This was back when the river was nearly frozen over.
  2. Low Crow in the Snow

    Low Crow in the Snow

It was pretty cold that day on my monthly "Winter waterbird count" walk. We do count all the birds we see, although our annual report focuses on the waterfowl. I set out early that day so as to start my assigned stretch as soon as it was (barely) light enough. Days are so short at mid-winter...

I'm uncertain if photos without clear details are encouraged. Will take it down if it goes against the rules.

    Hoodie on the beach

I've no no idea where we'd got to, I was just enjoying the leisurely drive round Smola's west coast road.. At one of our short stops, I saw this Hooded Crow foraging on a beach.

    Escort

We walked down into the town, and had only a few minutes been on the way when we came across this Hoodie.... he walked in front of us for quite some distance!

Another, just wanting to keep his feet cool was this Hooded Crow. Apparently there are no Carrion Crows in Norway (or at least up that far). These guys are everywhere and much braver than the ones I see.
  11. Beach comber

    Beach comber

Along with the Robin on that beach was a Hooded Crow. It seems you seem them everywhere on the west coast.... nice for me, as I don't see them on the east (at least not proper ones). A quick post and run today.... I'm off to Perth for bony adjustments and last bits of shopping before my...

    When's the next boat coming

No holiday on the West Coast would be complete without seeing a Hoodie.... or two.... or three LOL This one was beside the children's playground in the middle of the village.

    Ravens are song birds, technically

I think that these two birds were an adult and a bird of the year as I saw one apparently feeding the other.
  14. One of his 5 a day?

One of his 5 a day?

We found another Hoodie in a picnic area. He was about to pick up an apple core. This was a better picture though, than one of him actualy with the apple. This is about my last picture from our wonderful May holiday, just one view left, and a SF image or two maybe. I do hope you enjoyed my...

    Hooded Crow

In the background you can see the reflection of the pillars of the Craignure ferry pier. The birds must get so used to the hustle and bustle every hour or so.
  16. Hooded Crow

    Hooded Crow

The next day was spent exploring the town, getting information from the Tourist Information Office, Tesco etc, then a wander along the promenade. A nice relaxing day for Clive and Glen after their long journey from South Wales. Here's a Mo friend;). We don't get Hoodies over on the east side of...

    Ooops... it's a bit slippery!

This Hooded Crow was a pretty regular visitor on the beach outside the hotel. I'm pretty sure they are 'proper' ones on the West Coast (most of the hoodies round here in the east are hybrids - crossed with Carrion Crow).
