    extremes of nature

Although this was a very successful year for grey seal pups, there were some as nature would have it not to survive. This opportune Glaucous Gull was quick to take advantage of this situation, as were others, ensuring there own survival

    Bombs Away

There were many of these Gulls finding clams and then flying about 20 feet high and dropping them so they would break open. The Gulls were following some people who were clamming and getting the clams that were too small for the people to keep.

Iceland and Glaucous Gulls right in the same location. Very nice. Good chance for size comparison. Now to get them both in the same shot!

    Glaucous Gull

Have been seeing a few whitewinged gulls, Glaucous and Iceland mixed in with the ring-bills, black backed and herring in our area. We always have a few of these here in winter but they are relatively uncommon.
  8. Glaucous Gull

    Glaucous Gull

This juvenile Glaucous Gull was feeding on some seaweed that had been washed up on the shore of Girdle Ness today. It was quite bold and seemed to scare most of the other gulls that were around.

This is a 1st winter Glaucous Gull that we found at Chasewater. Not a brilliant photo but I can't seem to find another picture of one of these in the gallery. The photo was taken near to dusk and was about 100 yards away.
