Picture taken of a kestrel hunting from the national trust car park at Godrevy, Cornwall. I was able to stand under the kestrel as it searched the grass for prey. It was a lovely sunny day.
This bird has been foraging around our local lake for a few weeks. She has gradually become more trusting and this morning allowed me to get close enough for some decent photos.
My last post for this week as we are going to the Sologne region of France for the week-end. If you've not heard of this region it is one of France's largest inland wetland areas - if that makes sense, so we're hoping for some good birding.
Many thanks for your kind comments this week.
We had just rounded the head of the lake when it started to rain, it was cold, 9C, and the wind was blowing so I said to my wife, "let's take that path over there, it looks a bit more sheltered". It seems this male Kestrel had the same idea! I don't think it was too pleased that we'd...
I took 100s of pics of this female the other day, but I'll just upload one more. Different tree this time, as she has about 4 trees that she perches in while hunting (Kestrels hunt from trees as well as the usual hovering)
Same tree as the pic with the Flies, just a different angle. This is one of a few trees favoured by her and her mate; you can easily miss them in this tree if you don't look carefully.
I was watching the Kestrels again yesterday, well the female. As you can see from this picture, there's loads of Flies at the reservoirs.
Oh, I watched her swoop down from a tree, to catch a Worm that was 60m away (I uploaded pics in the main forum); first time I've seen that behaviour, even...
As we approached the hide we could see a 'blob' on top of the canopy above the viewing window. As we approached it resolved itself into this Kestrel. Whether it was sheltering from the wind or it was a regular perch we weren't sure.
My last post for this week so many thanks for your comments...
Well Peeps,
As you know I usually post my American Bird pics on a sunday, but as they are on a portable pocket hard drive that has now decided not to work, its kinda impossible. So, today I will have to share 3 more pics from our recent boat trip. Its really a beautiful cottage we are staying in...
Well Peeps,
Thought I'd just update yall on our boat hols. Unfortunately the weather has not been as kind to us this year as it has other years, but you win some, and you lose some. So with the light being mostly poor, or non existent, its not been easy taking very many pics. The first couple of...
American Kestrel (Falco sparverius sparverius) Some twenty one subspecies have been described while 16-17 are recognized by modern day authors. Only the nominate is mapped for Arizona. Species is sexually dimorphic. Photographed in Tucson, Pima County, Arizona, USA. Situated in the Sonoran...
Another shot of this female, she is so obliging that i,ll roll the car up to her and it sits and looks at me,jumps off the pole and grabs a beetle then back up on to her post.
Thanks everyone for all the great comments this week, and have a great weekend!!!
Andy.
