  1. Savouring

    Savouring

Or was he wondering what it was. I guess he liked the seed I'd provided though.
  2. Branch line

    Branch line

I had to go to Forfar for a post-op checkup and eye test in March, for my new specs; so on the way home decided to call in at the Kinnordy reserve. The hides weren't open, of course, as we were still in lock down, but there's a feeding station in the woodland. So armed with some feed to top up...
  3. Spring arrival

    Spring arrival

I had to go to Forfar so on the way back paid a quick visit to Kinnordy. The hides aren't open and there was nothing showing on the feeders so I drove along to the west end to see if anything was moving there. A pair of Oystercatchers one on each ex-gate post, so this is one of them.
  4. Common?

    Common?

Rather distant, flying over the fields at the back of the reserve, but this was the first Common Gull I'd seen at the reserve since April, so wanted to record it.
  5. Let's go

    Let's go

Saw two Shovelers... guess what happened as soon as the focus locked!!! Bit of luck that - think this is the first flight shots I've got for this species!
  6. Digger?

    Digger?

Not a year tick (that came in March) but one of very few sightings I've had of Shovelers this year. Usually there's two or three pairs around. Rather distant this image, so a huuuge crop on top of full zoom.
  7. Common in the mist

    Common in the mist

I spotted this less common (for Kinnordy) Common Gull flying over the far side of the loch above the reed bed. They do turn up regularly, particularly to bathe after feeding in the fields. There can be hundreds of them following a tractor in mixed flocks with Black-headed, Great Black Backs...
  8. Always hope

    Always hope

... when we see some Black-headed Gulls that they may stay on and breed, but it just doesn't happen sadly. They've not found the driest of spots for resting up, have they LOL.
  9. Just gadding about

    Just gadding about

I'm rather attracted to the understated neat plumage of the male Gadwall so was rather pleased to spot one beyond the bog bean islands. Another species that isn't at Kinnordy all the year.
  10. Camera Shy

    Camera Shy

He just wouldn't come out from behind that grass. Not fair, is it... especially as it was the first sighting of the year. But at least there was enough for ID purposes LOL So my Saturday Fun entry for this week.
  11. Shoveler male

    Shoveler male

I loved the setting for this Shoveler with the emergent flowering bog bean (well I think it's bog bean). They don't often come that close to the hide so I got lucky. Would you believe, going through the images for that day; I found a better picture of the Wood Sandpiper!!!! grrr
  12. Shoveler male

    Shoveler male

Shovelers are often seen at Kinnordy, but rarely giving such close views as this guy did, so I don't often manage to get a picture of them (well at least not one worth posting! They're one of my favourite ducks, as they always seem to be smiling!
  13. Shoveler

    Shoveler

These guys don't always come very close to the hide, so this was a treat, especially in the nice light we had that day. Would you believe his eye really was the colour of my text - amazing, isn't it. I'm early on parade today, as I've a hospital visit this morning... I'll try and catch up with...
  14. Cousins

    Cousins

Trying to whizz through my Spring folders to get to May and my holiday. But couldn't let these two handsome guys slip through the net. I've a soft spot for both Teal and Shoveler; the smallest against one of the largest of our ducks. Not the greatest of pictures though, as they were rather...
  15. Shoveler

    Shoveler

Don't they look great in their spring plumage. This handsome male was patrolling his patch along the bog bean island. Lovely sunny day today, without the mist that came down yesterday, so hopefully off back to Kinnordy this afternoon. Maybe there'll be some winter visitors come in.
  16. Shoveler

    Shoveler

Another from the Gullery hide. Unfortunately the sun had gone in, so detail isn't so good. But I do love Shovelers, they always make me smile.
  17. Pink-footed Geese

    Pink-footed Geese

FOS Our last stop that day and hardly any light left at all. In a field near Kirriemuir we at last found some Pink-feet and loads of them. This picture shows about half the flock. A bit of a shame they were so far the other side of the field though.
  18. Poseur

    Poseur

Just in front of, and to the left of the hide, the warden placed a stick in the reed bed, overhanging the water. This was to hopefully encourage a Kingfisher to sit for us to take pictures. I've never seen a Kingfisher there though and a couple of months ago the stick collapsed and now makes a...
  19. Shoveler

    Shoveler

About a week ago we visited Kinnordy and had some lovely weather late afternoon (for a change I might add!) The Shovelers don't often come this close to the hide so I was quite pleased to get a good look at him. Anas clypeata
  20. Shoveler pair

    Shoveler pair

The Shovelers woke up and decided to go for a little swim. Gosh I'm getting behind, that was a week ago and I was back there today. The RSPB have obtained 4 Konik ponies to help keep the marsh under control - they've been there a few weeks now but today was the first time I managed to see...
  21. A pair of sleepy heads

    A pair of sleepy heads

Not far from the Gullery Hide at Kinnordy, a male Shoveler was swimming around and then clambered up onto the reed bed, where I realised a female was dozing. They had a lovely sleep.
