    American Crow

This fellow decided to check out the part of the fence that the Northern Flicker was on yesterday. This particular spot is a favorite way station for just about every bird species that come into the yard.

    Yellow Bellied Sapsucker

I have some of these woodpeckers that seem to be setting up housekeeping nearby. Both males and females are in the yard daily. And of course I can't ignore them with the camera.
  9. American Goldfinch

    American Goldfinch

Don't see nearly as many of these birds as I used to, as I don't hang feeders out anymore. (Due to threat of disease.) However I do scatter seeds here and there so a few drop by occasionally.
  10. AMERICAN ROBIN

    AMERICAN ROBIN

We have a nesting pair in our yard. This is one of them foraging for bugs and worms. I can look out of a window at the back of the house and see their nest in a small Hemlock tree. The female has laid her eggs and is on the nest most of the time.
  11. FOX SPARROW

    FOX SPARROW

Not what I'd call a rare visitor to my yard, but a very infrequent one. I only see them a few times a year in small numbers. Some years I don't see any.

    Canada Goose

Every spring we have a couple of Canada Geese do a short "layover" at a small roadside pond. They will always stay for a few days before moving on. The pond is about 30 meters or so from the road in a hay field. The geese rest a few days, nibble some grass shoots, and honk at passersby like...

  20. Common Starling

    Common Starling

Guarding the entrance to it's new nest cavity. I can see this tree clearly from my front door step, and I've watched this bird cleaning out the cavity over the last few days. I hope it picked correctly. Although this is a favorite tree for starlings to nest in, it's a dead tree and very rotten...

Spotted this during my morning walk a short time ago. This guy looks like he's saying, "For Pete's sake, take the picture will ya? I can't hold this pose forever!!"

Not an every day visitor to my yard but there are a couple that drop in a few times a week. I tend to drop everything when I see them and try to get shots of them.
