    Snow Goose

This Snow Goose was first reported hanging around Jacksonville in January 2016 at a wildlife management area (Purdue Pond). I managed to get up there and get a few shots, although, they aren't totally uncommon to Florida, I had never heard of one wintering in Jacksonville. He hung with the...

I'd hate to guess at how many of these geese were spread out in the marshes on the day we were there but it was high and it was such a thrill to hear them.
  12. Birds of a feather NOT!

    Birds of a feather NOT!

This Greater White-fronted Goose took up with a Cackling Goose and a Lesser Canada Goose that were hanging out together. They firmly rejected it, so it hooked up with this Snow Goose family. Lately they too have shooed it away, but now the Cackler and Canada are tolerating it. Sometimes they are...

    5028-Mile Round Trip

In a crowd of about 3000 geese, I took this photo, reported this black on yellow neck collar and learned the following, which is a good indication of the origin/destination of some of these geese: The goose with code TF18 is a female banded in August, 2012 on Bylot Island (Baffin, Nanavut...

One for All and All for One

Sorry for so many Snow Geese photos but they seem to be staying around for a while and I can't resist them. We usually just see them for a short time as they pass thru but the weather and lots of open water must have them confused.

  19. Snow Goose juvi not (blue morph)

Snow Goose juvi not (blue morph)

After reading comments and looking at Cornell link provided I must agree that this goose looks more like a juvi white morph. Most snow geese are pure white with black wing tips but you find these "blue morph" ones mixed in with the flocks. They have these bluish/gray markings.

They must be in a hurry!!!!

The last batch of Snow Geese I ever seen and heard this season. Judging from the chaotic formation, I guess they must be in a hurry back to their Breeding ground.
