Solo birder in Ecuador- finding group tours/companions for Quito day trips?

I am travelling to Ecuador next month for work but I will have a few days in Quito by myself afterwards and I would like to take a day trip to either Antisana/Pallapacta/Yanococha to see the condors etc. All the tour options I am seeing are private and understandably charge a high premium for...

    Fraud birdwatching tour

WARNING! Don’t go on a bird watching tour through Thailand Bird Watching and Photography Tours with the guide called Phattharadech Thananpitchayakon or “Tony” as he calls himself. I went on the tour with this guide on 16.03.2023 with my parents and the guide didn’t follow the tour program at...

    Alpine Swift

Alpine Swifts are some of the local treat to visiting birders. It won't be long when they will arrive. Can't wait!
  5. Dalmatian Pelican photography

    Dalmatian Pelican photography

Since the season for Dalmatian Pelican photography is nearly here, I feel like I ought to show you a few more images before I head for new ones. These marvelous birds are getting their breeding colourful pouches in February so now comes the best time for their photography. This one was taken in...
  6. the Harlequin dance

    the Harlequin dance

Harlequins can have different shapes and forms. This superb White Pelican in full breeding plumage was tame enough to come and amuse us during a bird photography trip organised by www.LivingNature.bg Thank you very much!
  7. Dalmatian Pelican photography

    Dalmatian Pelican photography

The breeding season of Dalmatian Pelican approaches. Can't wait to see and photograph these amazing birds again. It is a shame that these birds are still killed for people to make bags from the birds' pouches. I suppose this could be a reason for the very high conservation priority status of...
  8. red-footed falcon

    red-footed falcon

I just returned from another great trip that I guided for Naturetrek and its local operator Pandion Tours. We had great time enjoying this Red-footed Falcon. In the same day we had Black Vulture, Egyptian Vulture, Eastern imperial Eagle, Golden Eagle, Hobby, Short-toed Eagle and a few other more...
  9. Little Egret

    Little Egret

I took this image of Little Egret in early morning light in september 2014. Other birds that were nearby include Spotted Redshank, Broad-billed Sandpiper, Black-winged Stilt, Little Ringed Plover, and others. It was a lovely morning.
  10. Scops Owl

    Scops Owl

Scops owls are active at night but occasionally we see them during the day at their roosting sites. There is a site in Bulgaria where I often take birders to see this marvelous bird in day light. It is quite an experience.
  11. Sardinian Warbler

    Sardinian Warbler

Just returned from a fantastic trip to the Eastern Rhodope mountains in Bulgaria where I conducted a course on bird identification. Some of the highlights we had include Black Vulture, Chukar, Orphean Warbler, Subalpine Warbler, Sardinian Warbler, Barred Warbler, Ortolan Bunting, Blue Rock...
  12. Melnik, Bulgaria

    Melnik, Bulgaria

The past weekend was rather suitable for a longer walk. This time I traveled to SW Bulgaria where sand pyramids have overtaken the landscape. The significant Mediterranean climate was a precondition for a few good birds: Subalpine Warblers, Alpine Swift, Sombre Tit, Red-rumped Swallow and a few...
  13. Tristram's Starling

    Tristram's Starling

The whistling call of Tristram's Starlings echoes in the wadis of Southern Oman making them enjoyable to see. A group of birds let me approach them down to a few metres after a pleasant camping. I was rather dark at the bottom of the wadi but still managed to get a few shots.
  14. Grey Partridge

    Grey Partridge

Here is another image from my recent winter birding trip along the Black sea coast. There was a group of 17 partridges in the muddy field that could hardly walk because of the mud and they were often hopping along. More birding stories and pictures on my blog here: www.NatureMonitoring.com

Just did another photography session with Spotted Nutcrackers at home. This time I wanted to do some action shots. Here is the updated gallery http://naturemonitoring.com/how-to-photograph-spotted-nutcracker/

    Spotted Nutcracker photo

We don't see many pictures of spotted Nutcrackers and at the same time they aren't really difficult or least at home. Just posted a few shots on my blog for wildlife photography here http://naturemonitoring.com/how-to-photograph-spotted-nutcracker/ Since they are fairly tame at home I decided...
  17. Bonelli's Eagle photography

    Bonelli's Eagle photography

Bonelli's Eagle is a usual bird to see in Oman. For the 10 day trip we had over 5 individuals at various places. This young individual must have eaten something fairly soon. It was a superb trip. Have a look at the checklist of birds seen on the most recent post on my blog here...
  18. Blackstart photography

    Blackstart photography

Blackstarts are birds that I have always wanted to see when flipping through the pages of the Collins Bird Guide. Well here they are. During my trip to Oman I had quite a few opportunities not just to see but also photograph them. They were fairly tame at some locations. Have a look at some...

    Leucistic Pale Javan Myna

Initially thought I was looking at an albino myna, however as I got closer to the bird, it does not have pink eyes, etc. Therefore, it is a leucistic pale javan myna. any comment?
