saw these 2 guys around Dec 27 in the mountains of Jabal Akhdhar near Muscat.

I must admit I thought the bird on the left was a redstart species in the first instance, but then thought there was an orbital ring, red iris, and pale throat and submoustacial stripe contrasting with a warm (pinkish?) chest and belly. Of course this is perhaps reading a bit too much into images where the IQ isn't the highest (no offence to the OP) It does look to have an all dark bill though, which of course would go against a female Menetries's.
I'm pretty sure both Lou and Kuz are much more familiar with the species though!
