A Day At Slimbridge ( Saturday 9th February) (1 Viewer)

We got on the coach at Plympton, arriving at Slimbridge at 11.45 a.m. OH & I went straight off bird watching. We had eaten lots on the coach|:D|
The captive birds were fairly easy to photograph, a few below. The bird feeder was from a hide.
We had a brilliant day, saw lots of birds, including, Knott, Spotted Redshank, Golden Plover, Lapwings.
A Buzzard, ( being constantly buzzed by a single Lapwing, who was taking great exception to it sitting in a tree, the buzzard took no notice |=)|
Peregrine, (that one set all the estuary birds up)
Hundreds of ducks, Widgeon, Teal & Pochard.
Pintail on Swan Lake, but I don't know if they were wild ones.
Moorhens & Coot everywhere.
Curlew, Dunlin, Redshank, Oystercatchers & others not identified, by us anyway.
Little birds were most of the garden birds, plus Reed Bunting.
A very satifying birding day, dispite no rarities & the absence of most of the wild swans. We came home a tired but happy crowd|=)|

I'll post some more later.

It looks like a great place, We're hoping to visit
there at the end of the month and
hope the weather is as kind to us!

I love the Black-necked Swans and Mandarins

Cheers

Thank you Folks. It was a good day out.
I'm sure there will be lots of birds for you to see there Tony. Sadly the swans have already nearly all gone. Olny a few came in to feed.

Some beautiful photos of what sounded like a wonderful day Val, so pleased you enjoyed it all. I love the Smew photo, the odd pose of the Goldeneye too, unmistakeable all the same.

Sue.

Hi Val,
Slimbridge is on my "got to see" list! Everyone has such a wonderful time there.
Your pics are lovely, thanks for sharing them & your great visit.

Thank you Pam & Pie.
Can anyone identify this duck? I can't find it anywhere, it was a captive one.

Hi Val,

I have looked in my 'Walkabout Guide' for Slimbridge and it looks like it is a Bronze-winged Duck. Number 72, if you have a guide. Hope this helps.

Well done Pam!

A really beautiful photo of it Val, they're also referred to as a Spectacled Duck.
Don't worry about 90 photos as I came back from Scotland with 3000!!!:eek!: We just can't help ourselves now can we! ;)

Happy snapping,me too!

Sue.

Thanks Pam, I didn't get a guide this time, got an old one somewhere.

You are welcome, Val. My guide is from my last visit...I took it along this year to save myself a penny or two!;)

Hi Sue, I think a Spectacled Duck is a much nicer name for them, I wonder of any are named Dollond or Aitchison?:-O
