Bumped into this guy today...am I right in thinkin it's an Adder B :)

I only had a second or two to grab the picture as it shot off into cover when it saw me (or heard me?) Great to see it though.
 
I saw my first black Adder a couple of weeks ago on the Berkshire heaths. How common is this colour variant and is it more prevalent in a males or females. The one I saw was about 30-40cm long.
