I usually buy more than one sample of each to cherry pick the best one to keep. I've had to go through roughly 20 total Nikon Prostaff P7 binoculars in 8x30, 10x30 and 10x42 but still wasn't able to find any perfect 10x30 and 8x30 yet.
Edit to add for clarification purposes
Even the fifth Nikon P7 10x30 I ordered and received and already sent back for refund still had an extremely loose floppy hinge which neither of the multiples of the 10x42s nor 8x30 exhibited such problem. The best out 9 8x30 I tried still have dust look like fuzz inside the lenses but it's the clearest out of the 9 I tried. I also had to go through at least 6 10x42s in order to find the keeper I have.
Maybe we're just having some fun here......if we're being serious I might look to side effects as the reason why the different binos appear different. I learned this while taking muscle relaxers and trying to do astronomy. Certain meds have a huge effect on your vision and nearly all of them have some effect.

I've only just recently been prescribed a lot of different meds. Majority of my previous testing were never under the influence of any medication or drugs whatsoever. Nobody would actually know what I'm talking about unless they actually bought 4 of the exact same binoculars and see that there's in fact some differences in clarity
It surely doesn't help when a good percentage were in fact "surely looked like" they were obviously previously returned items and not brand new as advertised in the first place which were defective items being resold.

It's definitely an interesting experiment! Not many have the patience for it. I've enjoyed buying 4 different pairs of 42mm EDG recently and the consistency was impressive, the optics and mechanics were remarkably consistent.
I will stay that my recently acquired EDG 10x42 simply emanates high quality. The focuser is superb and the optics are great. Using it is a visual treat and the tactile pleasure is nice. It was first sold new months ago and certainly is not a lemon.
My very recently acquired SRBC 8x42 bino is optically stunning to look through already without much comparison. But the focuser, although smooth, is too stiff for my liking. And it's not quite so nice to pick up and hold the SRBC as it is that magnificent EDG 10x42. Something to be said for that hand comfort...
