Looking for a simple, English language, non scientific checklist which shows the regular breeding birds that can be found on the different islands of the Azores in July. Plenty of info about rare birds or stuff in scientific language seems to be available but that isn't what I need.

Thanks Simon. I had already come across this but it is not in the format I'm looking for. Just looking for a list of the birds most likely to be seen in a given month and on which island.

Maybe one of the locals may know otherwise but I doubt what you want exactly isn't available. It wouldn't take too long to work it out - not too many species lots of islands though! I think the most interesting July birds from a visitors point of view would be Island Canary, Priolo and a great variety of seabirds and a sprinkling of passage waders.

On passerines front, there are only about 13 breeding species. Then add the seabirds and a few other bits and bobs, Common Buzzard and Wood Pigeon for example, and you have got your answer.

I was there three weeks ago and this short report may give you an idea of what to expect.

I was aware of there being a small number of species and that most birders go when they are likely to see the rare birds.

On which islands will I find the seabirds - especially the Roseate Terns and various shearwaters or petrels? Do I need to arrange a pelagic trip? I should add that this isn't a birdwatching holiday as such so not desperate to acquire a huge list. Always happy to see whatever might turn up but I'd like to know what's there on a regular basis.

I think Graciosa is one of the better islands for Roseate Terns, and pelagics off here and Faial are the most productive. Not sure if the Sooty Terns are back on the islet off Graciosa this year.
