Backwater Birding - Seaton, Devon (11 Viewers)

Evening birders,
A lovely evening and some great sights. Our first pair of Hares were running around in the field at the front of the bungalow. It's only the second time we have seen a pair on our patch; the others were at the lanes of Axmouth 4 years ago so a rare sight. Spent the evening enoying the Roe Deer with it's Fawn. The long grass made viewing difficult, i am putting alll my efforts in trying to get a better picture. Loads of Juviniles in the garden today; our favorite is ictures below. It's already found our peanuts. Hope you enjoy our picture.
Happy birding
Simon and sue

While at Colyford Common this morning I decided to take a picture of a Swallow that had landed on the tram line close to the hide. When I noticed a Stoat coming along the tramline and as I had my camera in my hand I managed to take a couple of pictures.
A few weeks ago I took this picture up at Haven Cliff of what I think is a Glow Worm larvae.
There were two Gadwall on the lagoon (previously known as the green patch) and the Pale-bellied Brent was still on Black Hole Marsh. A Hobby flew past the hide.

Very quiet this morning but there was this first summer Mediterranean Gull on the scrape at Colyford Common.

When I passed Coronation Corner this afternoon there was a first summer Med Gull but I am not sure whether it was the same bird that I saw this morning. Here is a picture of this afternoons bird.

Another Cory's in the channel

My parents had a Cory's an hour outside of Roscoff on the way to Plymouth on Tuesday afternoon....they have also been a few with Balearics off La Vendee (thats half way down the French Biscay coast) in the last couple of weeks.

So long and thanks for all the birds

Hi all
I know I haven't posted much on here, but just wanted to thank you all for keeping a great thread going.
I have recently upped sticks and moved to the Isle of Mull so won't be popping down next time something good turns up on the estuary.
Keep up the great work, I'll pop back on here every now and then to see what's going on.
Of course if any of you are coming up this way it would be great to meet up.
Thanks
Bob

Yesterday morning there were four Green Sandpipers and two Whimbrel at Colyford Common and a first summer Med Gull at Black Hole Marsh.

Plenty of youngsters/fledglings around at the moment including 3 Bullfinches, 2 Nuthatches and 2 G S woodpecker in my garden.

Also at Beer Quarry at least 4 young Moorhens and quite a few young Stock Doves, and a family of Pied Wagtails.

On Beer Head yesterday there was also 3 young Rock pipits being fed by one of their parents.

Evening birders,
We're back at last; our computer blew up! We're sure you have missed us? Plenty of juveniles in our garden, this years breeding is well up on the last 2 years. 5 great spotted woodpeckers, 2 adult and 3 juveniles enjoying our peanuts. A Hobby has been sighted twice. Our first sighting of a Honey Buzzard was wonderful, unfortunatly i picked it up flying away from me so no chance of a picture. A massive swarm of bees flew through our garden; it was really scary, fortunatly I didn't get stung! We have been very lucky, our first picture for ages will show you why. Truely magic, hope you all enjoy it.
Steve we will e-mail it though for your news letter.
Happy birding
Simon and Sue

Evening birders,
A red kite over this afternoon,, Sue ran in to grab the camera, she was totally annoyed that there were no batteries in it! It's call reminded her of someboby whistleing for thier dog.
My effort tonight was a Hobby over, a Doe with 2 fawns which was amazing. I took a long distace picture but it was rubbish! 1500 Jackdaws at least flew into Corvid Hill. A barn owl flew straight into front of me at 9:45 this evening. Hope you enjoy our picture from today; but at long distance we feel it was a good effort from us both!

Happy birding

Evening birders,
A terrible evening but our gardens need rain. Instead I decided to sort through our recent pictures.
We've named them:
1. Wonderful
2. Unwelcome Invasion
3. Can you name this bird?

Happy birding
Simon and Sue

Evening birders,
An update, firstly, we're glad to report a cuckoo was perched on the wires at Blue Bridge in Colyton. If only we had our camera. There are at least 2000 Jackdaws roosting with other Corvids, it's a truly amazing sight. We are both fortunate to see a wonderful show every evening, starlings are renowned for giving superb displays but our gang aren't far behind. A Barn Owl hunting in the fields in front of our bungalow is our favorite bird. We are so lucky to enjoy it so often and two fawns as well, with mother.

Happy Birding

Evening birders,
