Bad Zeiss Service (1 Viewer)

December 26, 2022. Zeiss Lifetime Warranty is a joke. Don't believe it. I did and now have paid the price. I own a pair of 10x40 t+p binos. I have owned them for 12 years. They were made in 1998. Great condition, great binos, until a recent issue with focus detail. The lens are crystal clear, but there is a slight focus issue. They won't detail to the penny. I called tech support with Zeiss; explained; and was told I need to have a focus rod adjustment. Said it was a lifetime warranty covered item. So I sent them on my 17.00 shipping cost to be told they would not honor the warranty. They're reason was explained by them educating me that the binos I had were manufactured without a sealed unit process; explaining that over time, humidity can enter the bino body and form fungus? Fungus? If they suspect there could be fungus; they don't want to open the bino body in shop because it could expose all items in the shop to fungus! I asked if they were 100% certain a fungus existed and they answered no. However, since they manufactured them without sealing the unit, there was a high probability it existed. So I asked, if you built them the way you built them and sold them with this knowledge, why won't you stand behind them? They basically took the position ; That they can! They only offered me 1 option: They would sell be a comparable pair for 749.00. There is no logic in this warranty denial. The binos have a crystal clear view and they acknowledged that fact. But they maintained there position based on the way they were manufactured without a unit sealing process. Do not buy Zeiss products if you expect to have a lifetime warranty. They will double talk they're way out of it!

But there are 6 attachments with your original posting. What model are you refering to, the Zeiss Dialyt or Carl Zeiss Victory?

Wow, that sucks! Nikon customer service was a comparative dream for me. Seattle Audubon sent my decades(?)-old 9x30s to Nikon for cleaning for me after I flipped my kayak in Puget Sound this summer. Nikon replaced them with new Monarch 7 10x30s. Seattle Audubon said I could trade them in towards something else if I wanted, so I'm comparing Nikon HG 10x42s and Zeiss Conquest 10x42s. The focus wheel on the Conquests had me leaning towards them, but after your experience with Zeiss, I'll probably stick with Nikon.

BTW, I'm new here, too. I recently joined to research my trip to Ecuador this spring. Happy birding!
