Basic Florida guide (1 Viewer)

HI there

Looking for a basic Florida bird book with Floridas common birds. I am heading out in March, but will not get birding done as the holiday is for the kids. I still think I should have a bird guide as I am still bound to come across some birds at some point.

Cheers

While there are probably some decent Florida guides, I'd suggest getting an Eastern US Field guide by Sibley, Peterson, or Nat Geographic. That way you're sure to have a first rate field guide and it will cover you well in Florida and also cover some later trips to the US. Hope you have a great visit!

Cheers Dave I am really looking forward to my first adventure over the pond. Saying it is for the kids is a bit untrue as I am probably the biggest kid in the family,
Cheers

Hi Karen we've just come back from Florida, have al look at the Trip Report which might give you a few hints as to where to go.
Also, there's a second report further down the page which is from February/March last year which may be more relevant.

CHeers for that. It will make much more sense though once I get a book, as I have not even heard of most of the species in your report. Only know my brittish birds I am afraid.

Cheers

I second Dave's suggestion. There are separate Florida guides, but they aren't as good as the general NA guides. Personally, I think that the Sibley guides are the best, with the National Geographic guide (5th edition) as runner-up.
Also, if you need a site guide make sure you get the ABA Birder's Guide to Florida by Bill Pranty.
