You can say quite happily that I was far from impressed, particularly by the underhand way that proceedings were conducted......and Dan Pointon, John Pegden and Michael Frosdick will never be forgiven either.

But this seems to be the trait of some at the top - don't give a damn about anyone else but yourself and I believe the same stitch-up occurred by another well-known Bedfordshire-based Birdforum regular at the Eyebrowed Thrush on North Ron last autumn and his cards are marked too. Selfishness is rife amongst birding.

Mmmmmmmmm??????????????

Well i keep saying that it's just a hobby.

That's what I always say too. It's not really going to change the world? Let folk see what they like, tick what they like. Who really gives a monkeys???

Kids are dieing in the world.

Lee - You've been involved in the other birding documentries in the past. You must know how to handle the press? You must have known the angle. Driving from Ireland to Wick is not the behavior of a rational person. Of course the press is going to ham it up. It's what they do.......

******* grow up lads,it's a hobby, you are all taking it too far and making average birders like myself actually wonder if this hobby is all it's cracked up to be

well twitching (to me) is just a numbers game, lists, rank etc etc, I've always thought the bird/s are largely irrelevant, but I'm probably generalising ;)

birding & twitching - two different things, any rational :-O birder knows the most common bird can make the hobby worthwhile and all it is cracked up to be :t:

Yet more unfounded assumptions... you can look up the dates of every bird they saw. It appears to be a neat list of weekends and school holidays. If you're so determined to undermine them, then maybe you can scour it more closely and find what you're looking for. Personally, I've got better things to do.
It was just a question, not an assumption. Obviously you have better things to do than read posts properly too.

Just watched on iPlayer. Not my type of birding at all but I found it an entertaining programme.

It certainly was entertaining - I've seen little snippets about the pursuit on other programmes (one of the Nature's Calendar programmes I think had a segment in the Scillies with Janet Sumner where she went out with some twitchers) but it's the first time I've seen a full programme dedicated to twitching.

I get the hint, when I get a new stairs carpet fitted, I will chuck some pics on my website.

:-O I doubt your carpet is any worse than that a lot of us have in our houses Garry. I don't remember thinking it looked that bad in the programme but that may be an indication of the state of mine! ;)

Really liked your 500th bird t-shirt, hope you get to use it soon. :t:

Well i keep saying that it's just a hobby.

:eek!: Go and wash your mouth out with soap! |:D|

Dear Lee,

I would like to take the opportunity on this forum to publically apologise to you for winding you up last night. I have no personal axe to grind with you and am happy to let bygones be bygones if you are too.

Regarding the 'North Ron incident' you refered to above. We were not guilty of stealing your plane. The pilot told everyone he was not flying anymore, due to a wind up by 'koscher' pilots on North Ron. We all cleared hastily out of the airport together and headed for the ferry. A couple of miles up the road we reasoned a) we wouldn't make it in time and that b) Charlie would come back from the island with people he had already taken and we could see if we could twist his arm to take us. This worked as it turned out the other pilots' wind up about the BAA proved to be false. All we were guilty of was thinking about it before you guys did and hence that is why we were already there and sorted when you arrived back in the airport. We can put both of our unreasonable behaviours afterwards down to the stresses of the situation.

I would also like to say on this forum that I know two people who were standing next to you watching the Pacific Swift in '93. I am not prepared to name names as they have not given me any permission to do so but suffice it to say they are birders of many years long standing and regulars on the twitching scene since the 80s.

Best regards,

Jonathan

I couldnt give a damn who is King Twitcher personally its just sad that the dirt has to be chucked in public .

Garry, at the last count is on 504 (UK400 Club Guidelines). His 500th species was in fact the delightful INDIAN HOUSE CROW at Cobh town centre in County Cork where Garry infamously wore his T-shirt and was photographed (and understandably upsetting Phil Davis with his actions). What Garry in his wisdom had failed to realise was that his life list was a combined British and Irish List and that his 500th bird was in Ireland but yet his T-shirt stated '500th Bird in BRITAIN'! What an oversight but thankfully our brethren on the other side of the Irish Sea took it in good spirits and there doesn't seem to be too much lasting damage caused.

The film took place in the Autumn of 2009

Since the film's release and its consequent repeat showings, there has been much media interest in filming further episodes but I have told them that following the response it has sparked nationwide, that would not be a good idea. They believe it to be an overwhelming success and are absolutely delighted in the havoc it has created and apparently it is the sort of programme the general public find quite entertaining and amusing. Parts of the birding media have also taken an interest and I have directed them to this forum so that they can find out for themselves the overall reaction. As I said earlier, never before has a birdwatching/twitching-type programme created such emotive response.

Despite you bearing an illegal stun-gun to ward me off, I still came off the worst for the attack and ended up in hot water with the authorities and the Police. I pleaded with them to do something about it but they felt that their hands were tied and despite providing them with evidence of how you had affected my business and mindset and behaviour, they left the situation in limbo.

LMAO!

Joe Public: "What are they fighting about?"

"Well, one says he saw a bird, the other says he didn't"

Thought I'd accidentally clicked onto Door Manager forum.

I sense a novel coming out.

Lunatics and asylum springs to mind,I did have plans for about 20 years time when the kids are grown up to save money up and twitch everything possible just for one year, simply not going to happen now

Jonathan

Thank you very sincerely for your apology and it is fully accepted. I have already discussed the situation with your good friends Simon Slade and Ed Smith and we all fully accepted that it was the stress of the situation and Charlie Kemp's disorganisation that made matters ten times worse. John Gregory and me go back a very long time and there will not be any animosity there but I do worry that such altercations will flare up again sometime in the future.

You're planning on going into a lunatic asylum instead?

;)

Well with the price increase of fuel on the horizon plus all the other increases in general i think we will all become local patchers

I disagree she looked bored at times and didn't seem very interested.I think she would rather have been playing with her friends instead of being dragged out twitching every weekend.
