Hi all, Im an avid birder with tons of choco birding under my belt, but mostly Ecuador where I own/steward some beautiful primary forest at 1700mtrs in Mindo. I'm visiting Medellin in a couple days for meetings but have two days to bird and want to get out of town. Long shot I know, but thought I'd post here and see if anything came back. Im looking for some nice forest hiking for excellent birds and river dip? So yeah needs to be a in a valley not higher elevation then Medellin. I know this is a bit specific, again ...long shot ;) Oh I'm renting a car and can/will drive 2.5 hour out of city. Thanks and enjoy! ~A

Cañon del Rio Claro is exactly what you are looking for! It is about a 2hr drive from Medellin. It can be a bit crowded on weekends but it has a beautiful river for swimming/rafting and good lowland birding for things like Antioquia Bristle-tyrant, Grey-cheeked Nunlet, White-mantled Barbet, Magdalena Antbird, Sooty Ant-tanager and more. Ebird hotspot link here: https://ebird.org/hotspot/L2339182

Another birding site right around Medellin is Reserva Natural La Romera, SE of the city: https://ebird.org/hotspot/L2339182
