I know that we still have a few days left of the year but I thought that you may wish to share your highs and lows of birding in Cheshire during 2010. I will post mine early in the New Year.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

Worst bits - missing Crane at Marbury, G G Shrike Hilbre, Nightingale & YBW Hilbre.

Best bits - being able to get to Hilbre almost every week.
Finding some good local birds near to home - Jack Snipe, Woodcock, Lesser Spot Woodpecker, Waxwing, White-fronted Geese (later picked up over Hilbre after I'd phoned the Obs to let them know they were going that way), Iceland & Glaucous Gulls (Gowy Tip - an underwatched area!). Finding Black-throated Diver off Hilbre

Frank Duffs three Firecrest, Delamere. Ringing Firecrest on the Wirral and then a week later on Hilbre (one of my favourite birds). Woodlark, Bereton. Slav Grebe. Seeing locally bred juvenile Marsh Harriers.

Being out birding with some good mates throughout the year! A great bunch who enjoy a good days birding, sport & a few beers!

Red Back at Frodsham followed by the very popular Great Northern Diver at Astbury. I never realy get lows whilst birding I have enough of them when Im working:-O A Shame I missed the White Winged Tern at IMF by 30 mins:-C

Only a couple of hours left and no daylight so here's the best and worst bits!

Highs – Three new county ticks this year - White-winged Black Tern, Woodlark and Bluethroat. The latter was probably my high and low rolled into one!! I left work on news of the Leasowe Bluethroat. The assembled birders had brief views of the bird on several occasions while I was stood in the wrong spot every time. With the evening becoming quite cold (caused by a northerly wind and my lack of any fleece) and light fading, the crowd gradually dwindled. After some 2 hours of cold torture I was finally rewarded with probably the best views of the day in the company of about 20 birders!! Agony and ecstasy all in one bird.

Locally my highlights included Hobby and Gadwall plus breeding of both Ringed and Little Ringed Plovers.

Lows – Dipping Little Egret on my local patch. Missing a few sitters this year – Jack Snipe, Marsh Tit and Yellow-legged Gulls being the worst of the bunch!

Highlights for this year have to be my garden visitors. Nuthatch, Redwing, Fieldfare, Sparrowhawk and Blackcap were all new ticks. Little Egrets at Moore NR, Black Terns at Marbury CP and of course the Waxwings at Kelsall were all brilliant to see. Worst birding moment.... I don't have one.... Happy New Year to you all and please accept my best wishes for 2011. :t::t:

Lowlights.Seeing my 1st Dipper, but terrible light ,distance and movement etc, meant the shots were useless.
Highlights-seeing my 1st Waxwing, and almost missing the shots(lens cleaning cloth trapped in the lens hood!!!!) but did manage some shots,so glad,as I think they were just passing through

Worst, easy. Splitting up from my girlfriend of 7yrs who was also into birding. Isn't the same watching the birds on your own. Best bit, feeding Robins from my hand, brilliant.

Best.... being in the hide when a Lesser Yellowlegs flew into Inner Marsh Farm and correctly ID`ing it........ to everyones dismay that it couldnt be..."its a Marsh Sand"

Low..... not seeing a Barn Owl all year
