Bird, again, for Britain's most imprisoned egg collector (RSPB) (1 Viewer)

Other threads on the go with the same suggestion. Obviously, the time for these cases to get to court means that even with the maximum sentance egg thieves are out and about in spring!

If I read the article correctly he was caught with 700 eggs in 2005. Another 700 now means c.120 per year!! That's some going. On benefits so we are paying for his habit to boot......

The maximum sentence needs massively increasing for this, also unless it's combined with some kind of treatment for what's obviously some form of kleptomania it's pointless...

Good idea James. He should be locked up during the breeding season (or have an accident whilst collecting on a clifF edge)

Locking people up is very expensive and - in this case - clearly doesn't work. Locking this criminal up for an extended period for what many in society would consider no more than a misdemeanor is not politically feasible. Even if it could be done, it might well result in calls for escalating a whole range of sentences - and we already have an overlarge prison population.

A more imaginative approach is needed. Perhaps being tagged for the entire breeding season for several years would do the trick,

Sounds good to me John.
