Bird Fair lecture - molotovs and merlins (1 Viewer)

For reasons that I haven't fully fathomed out yet, I have agreed to give a talk at the Bird Fair on Friday, 1pm in lecture theatre one.

It's called Molotovs and Merlins and is a few anecdotes about the problems we had when I was writing Best Birdwatching Sites in the Scottish Highlands. Subtitled pipits and porn, I realise that some people are easily offended so I promise that there will no mention of pipits... Well, not much porn either come to that but it does make for an intriguing and alliterative title.

If any of you want to pop in and say hello, get your book signed, heckle, get out of the rain, can't think of anything better to do, throw rotten fruit (bad) or throw money (good), then you are all very welcome.

I look forward to seeing you there - except the fruit throwers.

Gordon....i wud definitely be interested in a lecture about 'pipit porn'...great title..[tho as you say...some sensitive folk might not agree...fortunately most the guys in Leicester ain't 'that' sensitive...not the ones i know anyway]. Will be fascinated to find out what turns a pipit 'on'......[chuckle]....tho i'm guessing it might just be another pipit...

Doh

I can't come up Friday. Which is a shame as last long weekend was spent racing around Ardnamurchan/Skye/Speyside. Book was very useful, even if our pacing was at odds with the habitat. Saw an adult and joungster white tailed sea eagle, talon grappling at Glen Brittle, whilst looking for Goldies. Not often you get to see two birds with wingspans the size of sofas spinning towards the ground!

Expect it will be a good talk - good luck with the fruit dodging and coin catching..

You're making me blush now but much appreciated nonetheless. At least everyone laughed where they were supposed to ...

Sorry about the hacking cough though. We're off to Speyside and Mull in a couple of weeks - I've heard that the midges are particularly vicious this year.

Cheers, Gordon

Didn't see your lecture Gordon....didn't see any lectures in fact...[tho i had intended to]! You know what birdy folks are like...too busy gossiping and catching up with all the latest 'scandals' on the uk scene...when not visiting the ice-cream vans.

ps...highlight was Alex hornes little 'gig'...very funny bloke..
pps....biggest 'dip of the show' for me was missing a well known birder attacking Johnny Kingdom with a sword dressed up as a pirate....wud loved to have seen that...anyone get it on video?...i suppose not...ah well...

Spent a couple of weeks on Mull 18-31 July and there were hardly any midges around, it was quite windy though. From comments in the visitors book they had been a problem earlier in May/June.
