Bird Of Prey? - Leicestershire (1 Viewer)

Sorry for the long distance photos, but this bird flew off soon after as I was moving closer. Looks to have a dark back and lighter chest, and looks similar to some bird of prey species.
My initial thought looking at it was cuckoo, but then I was swayed towards bird of prey. About a pigeon sized - mabye slightly smaller. Any help appreciated.

I think the bird , especially in the second image , looks like a cuckoo. Also, a cuckoo in flight often looks like a bird of prey.

Photo 1 has similarities with the Eurasian Jackdaw in colour pattern. Dark at front of face, upper parts darker than lower parts... Not so much in photo 2 though.
