Interesting discussion indeed. I wonder those who opined that the red kite could not be so bold as to brazenly scavenge in urban areas have changed their minds given the species' expansion across the south of England since? If one recalls that large gulls were likely (?) less abundant in London in Shakespeare's day (though perhaps made up for by ravens), there would have been plenty of opportunity for kites to scavenge off a medieval city.
