I can't find this bird sound anywhere, on any site. It usually calls 3 times (blink blink blink) see attached video for sound. View attachment 20210512_180007.mp4
Hi JizzJazz and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.
It sounds a bit like a Robin alarm call but, as Butty says, a slightly longer recording would really help. I'm guessing you recorded this in the W Midlands?
I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Assuming you’re not talking about the ticking robin, which i dont think you are...
I could be wrong but I’d also say Carrion Crow. My experience sounded very much like your recording. I was in the woods and heard that noise and thought “what on earth?..” and looked round and seen a Carrion Crow in a tree making that noise. Even as I was seeing the crow do it, it seemed strange. And it’s stuck with me since. The crow looked and sounded “strained” as it did it, and had a melancholy feel to me, although it probably isn’t.

Thank you Andy, no definitely not the Robin. I will have to look more into the Carrion Crow, but the sounds that I've found so far don't sound like it. It's so difficult to get a longer recording as I don't hear it that often and when I do, I rush to get my phone and it stops.

Hi again JizzJazz,
Been almost a year since we tried to figure this out! I just confirmed it this weekend that it is definitely Carrion Crow. In the same woods that I heard it last time. I managed to get some recordings. It repeated the call again and again, each call 2 or 3 notes. In the half hour that I was nearby it called at least 15 times, and it carries for quite some distance. I got close enough so that it was up in the tree above me and I could see it. It was there with 2 other crows and in between calling there was a lot of chasing each other through the tree's.
I was absolutely positive that's what it was when I first heard your recording and am glad I could witness it again. It doesn't seem to be a common call, yet the crows all know it from Sollihull to Aberdeenshire haha
