Here are two Black-naped Orioles of the same subspecies group. Both are said to be Sunda = maculatus group, although--based on range--both should actually be Chinese/East Asian = diffusus, but never mind; the important thing is that they are both supposed to be of the same subspecies group.
1) At the base of the Malayan peninsula (Kaeng Krachan, Thailand), 15 March
2) At the tip of the Malayan peninsula (Johor, Malaysia), 22 April
Why the striking difference in bill size and the somewhat smaller difference in the extent of the black mask (thick vs thin line behind the eye)?
Could the smaller bill suggest that one should at least consider vagrant Indian Golden Oriole for the second picture?
Photos of the first two Thai records of Indian Golden Oriole:
EDIT: Or maybe one is East Asian/Chinese BNO and the other one is Sunda BNO akin to the difference between thise two?
(Maybe, but--then--these subspecies look very different.)
not sure what to make of this picture*:
*confusingly, East Asian/Chinese = diffusus, while chinensis = Philippine
