Blackbird fledgling died (1 Viewer)

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum and it's a somber reason for my post.

In our garden we've had two beautiful Blackbirds nesting and only today the four fledglings left there nest.

It was wonderful to see as they bounced around on the garden floor under the bushes.

Unfortunately I heard one of the parents very distressed calls and when I went to investigate I found a fledgling on the drive next door in distress. I could see that it was injured and I picked the little fellow up as it was struggling to move.

The little guy had an injury on the back of his head which wasn't bleeding but looked very sore.

I sat with the little guy for a while but he seemed to deteriorate so I thought I would put him back in the nest hoping the parents could care or even realise the seriousness of the matter.

Unfortunately the little guy passed away very shortly after. I've removed it from the nest and am intending to burie the little guy in the garden.

ANY ADVICE WOULD BE HUGELY APPRECIATED.

Sounds as though you did the best you could. Nature is raw sometimes but nature nonetheless.

Hi there and a warm welcome to you from those of us on staff here at BirdForum. We're glad you found us and hopefully you won't be coming across any more injured fledglings.
