Hi everyone,

I am planning a birdwatching tour to the Brazilian Atlantic Forest at the beginning of November.

I would like to receive some information:

Is it the right time of the year to visit the area?

Can you recommend me expert bird guides that work in this area?

Can you recommend me the best hotspots to visit?

Thanks in advance,

Hi Jose,

November is early in the rainy season, which may already impact your birding. Which area were you planning to visit and where were you planning to start from Rio or Sao Paulo for example and what is the planned length of the trip?

KR,

Filip

Hi Jose, I was planning on visiting the Atlantic rainforest in August, I wondered if you made the trip in the end, how was it?

Hello , i,m looking for a 1 day birding guide in February 2025 to visit Parque National Itatiaia any tips.
I suggest you Hudson Martins from Birds Rio.

From my point of view, an excellent guide.

He guided me in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil and he has a great knowledge of the calls of the birds.

Thanks Jose ,

Yes Hudson seems to be a good guide and a lot of persons recommend him , but unfurtunatly not very responsive to queries , he might be very busy lately , so I,m looking to alternatives.

Wondering if readers on this thread have visited Itororo Lodge and Trilha dos Toucanos lodge for Atlantic rainforest birding.
I am not able to visit both and would appreciate opinions please.

Spent exactly one day at the latter. It was excellent. Both look good according to ebird lists. Perhaps comes down to what you most want to see

Have not stayed at either, although they seem positively reviewed. The main thing to consider would be practicality (are you arriving in RDJ or Sao Paulo) and what birds you want to see. They're in different parts of the Atlantic forest so will have reasonably different birds.
