A squirrel shot at ISO 6400 and cleaned up a bit. Not great but no bad either, what do you think?
With an outlay of £3000-3500 surely there must be better examples which aren't in the 'record-shot' category.
Maybe I'm just too picky but a sharp, well composed, well exposed quality image must be possible. Never sure what the point of using extreme range, poor light, difficult conditions etc just to prove that expensive optics will get that poor record shot. Honestly, not looking for a spat just some quality images - I'm desperate to upgrade lens and/or body just not seeing anything to justify the outlay yet.

I want to apologise to all those photographers in the West Midlands for the weather going down the pan from early next week onwards. Why ? Because that's when my newly ordered 7D ii should arrive and as we all know that when you buy a new camera or lens the weather goes downhill.
I am very apprehensive that I might get a faulty one so if anyone could give me advice how to check the AF problem I would be obliged.I presume that I've got to set up a target and use a tripod to rattle off some shots but what settings should I use.My lens is a 400 f5.6.

A few example shots from Japan. All with 7d2, 100-400 2. Not always perfect, but good results are possible.
Cheers
