Charley Harper Appreciation (1 Viewer)

I recently got to visit the National Gallery of art in Washington DC, USA and they had a nice collection of prints (as postcards) from Charley Harper that I'm incorporating into the gallery walls of my office. I really enjoyed his minimalist take on bird life and was surprised at how he's rarely been mentioned on Bird Forum and the last mention was almost a decade ago. For those who like me a few weeks ago aren't familiar with his style, here is a popular example:

I am also a Harper fan. I had a jigsaw of one of his works for Christmas a few years back. Being from the UK I struggled with some of the IDs but I think the collective knowledge of BirdForum got there in the end.

Even though it's not one that I would purchase for myself, I've had great fun dipping into it this morning
to see if I could identify what species are in there (not doing too well LOL). Been searching for a Yellow-rumped Warbler but failed on that so far!

Made me think that maybe the guys in the Quiz forum would enjoy having a go at that (though you ought to be able to name them too, so you could say yes or no to their entries). But if you admit you don't know yourself, they could still do their best with it.

Or follow in Mono's steps and post in the ID forum!

On our visit to Costa Rica we bought a Charley Harper Macaw poster, it is now framed and has pride of place in the hallway.

I'd do much better at the quiz for this one than the first one to Delia's suggestion.

I live in Costa Rica and until yesterday I didn't know he'd done some Costa Rican birds. I ended up buying a print of his Monteverde one that I'm excited to get.

I seldom buy souvenirs on birding trips, but I did pick that picture up as a large poster when I visited Monte Verde about twenty years ago. Awkward to then lug it about in its tube for the rest of the trip, but it's brightened up my landing ever since! Fair to say I'm another long time fan. His Alaska poster is another one worth checking out.

When we purchased our poster at Monte Verde we were told that a percentage of the poster price was being donated to Costa Rican wildlife.

Apparently this was at the artist's request, (sadly I believe he died in 2007)
