Just had a brambling in our garden (chester) this morning, its a bit late for them isn't it?

Also 3 blackcaps on our ivy berries yesterday!

Nice day out in Chesire today - visietd Beeston Castle, then Burton Mere, Burton Point, Little Eye and then Red Rocks. Plenty of Wheatear around Burton Point. Some on the walls just resting allowing fairly close approach. Please could some one explain where they would have last stopped? Would any of them have flown non-stop from Africa or any other long distance and then decided to stop just here? Some were looking so tired and the numbers present was quite something to watch. How many Wheatears would there usually be at this time of the year in previous years?

A nice surprise was a Garganey at BMW and an even nicer one was a Swift at Burton Point. One had been seen previously at BMW. Maybe it was the same bird? I managed to see my first Swift before House and Sand Martin this year, although the latter was only 2 minutes behind. Chiffchaffs at Beeston, BMW, IMF, Burton Point and Red Rocks. Willow Warblers at IMF and Beeston. Blackcap heard at Beeston and adjacent to Red Rocks . Whitethroat heard at Red Rocks. A good number of Sedge Warblers heard at Red Rocks. Redpolls around Beeston.

Some one had spotted a Caspian Gull at Leasowe. Nothing else to report that I remember!
