My first Brimstone butterfly of the year
First Comma on Thursday and also first Brinmstone yesterday too👍

Lots of reports of brimstones in the Midlands this week, I saw one at Brandon Marsh yesterday. I have had a quick read and it seems like those we are seeing are adults who hibernated over the winter and have come out to mate due to the warm weather. Let’s hope they made it as it looks like that might be it for a few weeks!

Pair of Stonechats (male singing) near the bridleway plus another singing male along the river at the back of Coney Meadow.
2 Lesser Redpolls just west of Salwarpe village
Singing Blackcaps and Chiffchaffs
Kestrel and Buzzards
Coal Tit

Muntjac again

Significant disturbance due to gunshots - a couple of goons shooting Corvids between the canal and Chawson Lane. Let's hope that's all they were shooting!

A pair of Mandarins at Salwarpe this morning.
Pair of Stonechats on High Park
Coot on Tapenhall Pool and 2 on a Pool near Hawford Grange
Meadow Pipit
Winter Thrushes
Singing Blackcaps and Chiffchaffs

They have now finished ploughing the rough field near Salwarpe - so that's unlikely to be any good for Barn Owl now. It will be interesting to see if Stonechats attempt to breed again this year now the areas of suitable habitat have been significantly reduced.

I was stunned to have prolonged views of a female Fallow Deer near Knight's Grove this morning - a species I've never seen on the patch before. It just stood looking at me for about 5 minutes and then, when it turned, I could see its distinctive long black and white tail and white rump with black surround - very different from the smaller Roe Deers that are frequently seen around here.

A Little Egret was hanging around Coney Meadow this morning.
