Hi Mary,
Yes, there's some really good habitat all along the canal - at Porter's Mill and beyond. I remember vividly in the late 1980's finding a colony of Glow-worms along there in a patch of rough ground - never seen them since, though.
This year, I'm going to try and photograph as many of the insects as possible in and around Coney Meadow.
Lots of Orange Tips about today plus Brimstone and Small Tortoiseshell.
Below are record shots of a Froghopper and Large Red Damselfly (taken today) as well as Essex Skipper (taken last year) and Migrant Hawker (taken in 2010)
We went along the other end yesterday, from Porter's Mill to the Severn. The warblers were deafening! But, sadly, no sound of a cuckoo. There's some fabulous undisturbed habitat along there, isn't there? Salwarpe end next!
