Discussion- What do you believe is the prettiest bird globally? (1 Viewer)

There are many pretty birds out there, but I think that Blue Tit is where beautiful meets common. I like the face pattern and blue colouration--obviously--but also the alacrity and acrobatics of its movement (the way it hangs upside down to feed, for example). I also tongue-in-cheek admire their character when I see them take on grapes or crab apples much bigger than they could ever dream of eating.

I'd vote Bald Eagle just for the power and grace they have. Totally unlike any other bird I can see around here (eastern USA). I know there are even bigger eagles around the world, I will have to try to see some of them.

I think the white tailed eagles would be my choice if I was talking about which eagle is my favourite… though the stellers is magnificent as well.

The thing is that there are many birds in Hong Kong which have stunning and varied colours but to which I don't pay too much attention. Daurian Redstarts, Verditer Flycatchers, Grey-chinned Minivets... they're common enough that when I spot one I might just shrug and move on.

On the other hand, Speckled Piculet is a bird I find myself studying on occasion with a good amount of appreciation.

Todies are just adorable, not that I've ever seen one. White-browed Tit-warbler is one of the cutest I've seen.
Out of species I've seen, white-browed tit-warbler was my favourite for many years, after seeing them in the upper Manang valley in the late 80s. I'm not sure if I've seen anything which surpasses them for prettiness since. Never seen the boreal, white-headed race of long-tailed tit, which I agree is another worthy candidate.
I guess I'm equating 'pretty' with 'cute', which rules out a lot of 'beautiful' species like hummingbirds or kingfishers.
