Dusky/Ruddy Pigeon? Rio Silanche (Pichincha/Ecuador) (1 Viewer)

Still culling pics from last Novembers trip to Northern Ecuador and struggling to feel 100% on this bird. Both Dusky & Ruddy Pigeons occur regularly at this site and we saw several definite Ruddy Pigeons - not close but at the same level we were watching from and I've got record shots I'm happy are clearly this species.

Later we saw this bird (one of 2 together) which although much closer were overhead and with a little mist haven't helped my photo attempts. To me I favour these as Dusky based on a mix of structure, plumage and comparison to the local Ruddy's we had been watching (on the tower) although given the light it's hard to feel confident in the reproduction of colours (note: the race of Ruddy Pigeon found in this area is Patagioenas subvinacea berlepschi which is a notably more rufous race than others). Any thoughts appreciated ...

Thanks - Chris

Without confidence, suggest probably dusky. Bill looks quite robust (most dusky), head grey (ditto), vent dark, but eye quite dark, not obviously red. Final shot suggests throat diffusely pale over a wide area (dusky)

Thanks for your comments. Likewise I'm minded to treat as Dusky - neither species new for me so not crucial personally but prefer not to eBird species/photos incorrectly!
