Ethiopia and binoculars (1 Viewer)

One thing that no one seems to have mentioned on this thread. I've birded Ethiopia twice since the binocular ban and have been told by my local guide that the ban was initially introduced because a local birding guide in the Tigray Region was shot and killed for his binoculars while out birding. This should be considered once you have taken your bins into the country and are out birding.

That may be interesting as such, but practically, Tigray has been a war / no-go zone for the last 4 years, so I don't see too many practical considerations into play.

There is a very good book to peruse before planning any trips, birding or otherwise. Any numbnuts insisting on going into war zones or no-go areas deserves what's coming. The publisher might well be the world's premier t*******t organisation, but probably it is because of that that they really know what they're talking about.
