Eye cup troubles (1 Viewer)

Hi,

Please, point me to the correct thread as I'm sure this would have been covered. I've been searching but yet to find a satisfactory answer.

I have a pair of SLC 8x42 that I purchased new in 2020. They have always given me a bit of grief getting the eye relief right with the eyecups. I'm not an eye glass wearer (never had any issues to make me think I need to be checked, possibly that could be the solution) and with the eye cups all the way out are like tunnel vision, all the way in is very good with maximum field of view but less forgiving with head alignment making it difficult to keep image while scanning. The medium setting is ok but I still get a very blurred edge and loss of field of view.

I understand we are all different and and sometimes what works is not conventional but the instructions on setting them are at odds with how I need to use them. All the way in for eye glass wearers and all the way out for non eyeglass wearers. With a setting in between.

Am I doing something wrong, over thinking it or should I consider experimenting with other brands?

Thanks for your input.

Hello.

You say you have had this problem since 2020 when you purchased them, do you think it has become worse over time?

You are correct eye relief is unique to each person, it could be that you haven’t found the correct position that works for you.

It could also be that you need to have an eye test to ensure that your vision is not impaired, as we get older our vision does change. If it was me I would have an eye test first, then go from there.

I’m sure there will be other members who have further advice.

If you need a different intermediate position from what the clicks offer, you could try using O-rings to get the correct distance. You could even get a spacer ring 3D-printed for this same purpose.

...with the eye cups all the way out are like tunnel vision... but I still get a very blurred edge and loss of field of view...
If you mean you can't actually see the whole field of view with eyecups out, or even half out, something must be seriously wrong. Eyeglass wearers can have this problem; you shouldn't. Setting the eyecups too short will lead to blackouts. Are you sure you have the interpupillary distance set correctly?

By the way, is this the SLC you found to be out of collimation several years ago, and did you get it fixed?

Hi Skippa are those the only binos you have ever used? have you got more experience with other ?

My guess is that one of either barrel prism is miss aligned ( no clue what I am saying but...)
8x42 configuration should be the easiest and less stress configuration for your eyes. That is why I mention the above. Some kind a misalignments that is making a uncomfortable use of both eyes BUT try only to see through one barrel and then the other. If it is ok individually and then a pain with both eyes, the exit pupil is not matching the eyes positions. hence misalignment.

Just take them a your nearest shop and ask for advise. Even if they did not sell them to you, they will give you a brief advice.
