I hope this doesn't count as a virus warning.
I received an email from a friend (supposedly) asking me to click on a photo. When I did so I got a message saying "Welcome to FanBox". There was then an email from them saying, if you want to cancel your account, click here. I made the mistake of 'clicking here', since when I've had more messages from FanBox both at home and at work. I hope I haven't imported a virus. Could anyone tell me any more about this scam?

The above link will give you information on Fanbox. Unfortunately, since you have clicked the cancel button, the scammers now know that you email address is in use and will continue to bombard you with spam.

The best thing you can do is to block Fanbox etc from your email client.

I normally have the sense not to click anything but the website looked legit.
I'll do as you suggest.
As far as I can see I haven't got any viruses as such, so I hope no real damage has been done.
These spams are a menace. I'm getting long emails from a Google group that someone seems to have subscribed me to without asking.

The whole purpose of Fanbox as far as I can tell is possible identity theft and not virus transmission.
