We have four Maglites of different sizes. Can't fault them, although they are not truly submersible, most of them being only IPX4, IPX7 if you're lucky.

I have the fenix HT18. The range is amazing really. But there are a couple of things I've never liked about it.

*The button that increases the power can be difficult to find.
*The same button loops around from lowest to highest and back to lowest (4 power levels). But when it gets hot, you only get 3 levels. So you never know if one more press is going to get you highest power or back to low! Plus it remembers the last power level when you turn it on again, but you don't remember, so again you don't know when you are at the Max.
You end up cycling through the power levels a couple of times which is inevitably going to disturb wildlife.

I don't know if any of the other brands have a better design, a big sliding switch for power levels would be easier, for example.

Some of the Olights use a button surrounded by a ridged dial to control the level - that works well. I don't think they all use it though. Good torches but horrible marketing...

That seems better. A button that only tells you when you are at max, by saying "aah, you've gone back to lowest power sorry. Now you are either 2 or 3 presses from max depending on how hot I've got!" Isn't my idea of a good design.
In the meantime I'm running warehouse rave levels of flashing lights trying to work it out!
