Hi All
I have had a trawl through likely candidates but I am struggling with this fly. I can't find any that have the wing pattern displayed in the photos.
Could someone please put me out of my misery?

Thanks Ficedula, the photos that I saw shower green eyes and and dark pointed tail. I guess I
should have gone wioth the wings and looked for further photos.
I really struggle with keys, even the "easy" ones in Ball & Morris, I think partly due to terminology.
If I had realised much earlier how interesting insects are, I would have beome an entemologist......
