Am I missing something, or did the Guardian get it wrong? The last picture at this link to wildlife photos from the week: Week in wildlife in pictures: a very lost penguin, cloned baby ferrets and a mystery mollusc is labeled as an Eared Grebe (which might be more familiar on the east side of the Atlantic as Black-necked Grebe, Podiceps nigricollis). It looks to me more like a Horned Grebe (or Slovonian Grebe, Podiceps auritus).

May be it is error from transalting from Turkish language. In Bulgarian language is also eared, in direct translation to English.

It does look more like Slavonian to me.
I can't see the bill tip, it's obscured on both mandibles by the fish, & the cheeks aren't showing the duskiness I'd expect on Black-necked. The head-shape, to my eyes, doesn't show the steep forehead & peaked head above the eye.
But I can see a pale patch in front of the eye and a red line from eye to gape.

It's definitely Slavonian. Nice big flock of Baikal Teal in the photo above it too
