Thanks Brian for confirm looked good live very well marked, with strong supercilion ,photos didn’t do bird justice , but when I had good look at pictures decided as I said wishful thinking . Coincidence that a rock pipit turned up much later in the day.

Monday morning CLP LRP and Redshank West shore ,Willow Warbler singing South West end and 1 House Martin amongst hundreds of Sand Martins. Along the river ,having had 4 sightings of Kingfishers at Puxton Marsh the previous day it was inevitable that I would see my first sighting at Grimley for this year and that was the case. A few minutes later upriver on the gravel bank a Green Sandpiper also new for the year. At least 1 Redpoll was with a 30+ flock of linnit and goldfinch in the corner of the field which was planted with runner beans next to Wagon Wheel dirt lane .
At 10;00am in a hail squawl a Curlew heard long before seen came from the South got almost to the North Causeway before drifting East over the river. A male Redstart was along the Arc drive hedgerow but distant. 3 Yellow wags on the corner of causeway.

Quick visit to CLP on a very calm night ,2 Common Sandpiper took my Grimley year count to 99 and a Peregrine annoyed the Lapwings for about 5 minutes before flying North.

First reed warbler of the year for me at the south end of CLP. A few lapwing, one oyc and one redshank but otherwise quiet: some swallows and sand martins. Sling Pool had a couple of LRPs and one garganey was still there, asleep. Looks to be drying out (the pool, not the duck!)

Thursday evening , warm calm SE gentle breeze, Cuckoo calling from South end [200m] photo,G.W. Egret with 2 Little egrets. Several Reed Warblers singing and a Sedge Warbler West shore South end . Yellow Wags still passing through and a pair of Crows cont. next post

Tuesday evening overcast dull , Wood Sandpiper and Whinchat seen earlier in week were absent but I had my first Swift of the year and later , another sighting at the South end . Redshanks, LRP's Common Sands Little Egrets and Cattle Egret on West shore Line . Wheatear in the field with brown cows was another first.
Had stunning views of a Cettis Warbler Challenging by song another bird some 50m away but the light was fading to get a decent photo. Never had one out in the open before and it knew i was there .

Thursday evening, Church Farm, summer plumage Dunlin with LRPs and a wheatear [Fem].
CLP a Channel type Wagtail was with 7 Yellow Wagtails on the West shore. I wa s unable to get a photo of the bird which proceeded to move Southward down the shore and althoughi saw it several times the hedge obscured clear views. Craig who was also present may have taken a photo of the bird and might be able to give more info on its race .
At the South end Cuckoo calling , good numbers of House martins 40+ which were not mixing much with the Sand martins at the North end and about 10 Swifts . Mistle Thrushes with fledged young in horse paddocks .My count remains at 105 species .

Tuesday evening ,cool , rain showers ,2 Dunlin + Ringed Plover CLP East shore all 3 had left high North before 7:00pm

3 hours, without showers, on Sunday was very pleasant and reasonably productive with the following:

Reasonable numbers of Hirundines that came and went throughout - nice to see a few Swifts.
4 species of Wader including 2 pr LRP one of which appeared to be sitting on a scrape.
Nice male White Wagtail plus several Yellow - no other races seen.
Minimum of 5 Wheatear,
6 spp of Warbler - expected the full 8 but they weren’t all singing.
Marsh Frogs.
No Pyramidal or Bee Orchid leaves seen. I am hoping for a repeat of the Wasp var. trolli again this season.....before the Lord of the Manor’s Sheep graze them :-(
Minimum of 4 Hobbies with poss a 5th - 4 hunting Hirundines high ay one stage.
No Terns which was disappointing but not surprising considering what is passing for Spring at present.

Good birding -

Laurie -

Attached - Hobbies.

Thurday evening sunny but a bit breezy Holt had a Ruddy Shelduck ,probably doesn't count as a true british wild bird but it was a new species for me ,and seemed happy grazing with the Canadas and taking flights around the FAR flash.
