Hello...my wife and I are not birders but are blessed with a rooftop garden none stories up in downtown Brooklyn. We are visited by many birds throughout the year. My wife types them with her Audubon book. We always have nesting mourning doves and dissuade Mocking birds likewise. It is a big garden and there are always some birds about. We do not feed them as we are not here all the time. We have an interesting question though: All plants (conifers, maples, shrubs) are in containers. Every year we must weed out oak tree seedlings that are still attached to the acorns. Our bird population includes Mocking Birds, Mourning Doves, Robbins, local finches and sparrows and the occasional Blue Jay. We have not witnessed a bird carrying or burying an acorn. Who is the culprit?

Hi there Gary and a warm welcome to you from a former New Yorker but ,my son is still in NY :)

There are probably other birds that you are not aware of that may be buryihg seeds for a drought in food during the winter months and you'll see them then :) Most birds do hide found food for future use though.

Glad you found us and please join in wherever you like with any bird news from your area or questions you may have :)

Hi Gary, and welcome to the forum on behalf of the staff and moderators. I think you will find us a friendly and helpful group. I would tend to agree with KC on the culprits.

Hi Gary and a warm welcome from me too. As you've seen Blue Jays up there, I'd think this is the main one for having buried the acorns

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about.
