Hello To All From Sunny Arizona (1 Viewer)

I have been a lover of birds my whole life! I was born and raised in Seattle, where I feel we didn't have as much of a variety as we have here in Arizona. I could be completely wrong about that though. If nothing else I have been introduced to a new variety of birds. I have a pair of what I believe to be Great Black Hawks (I may be wrong) living in a very large tree behind my home, they have been there about a year now and I get to see them daily. I'm interested in getting opinions from others about if they truly are GBH or something different.

Harris’s are some of my favorite hawks! I do miss the wide variety of birds in SE Arizona, lived there for 30+ years. Now I am in the PNW.

Also after looking at the Harris Hawk Forum and photos, I do not believe mine are Harris Hawks. The tails of mine have a band of white and are definitely more black in overall color, they also look bigger in size than the Harris Hawk.

Also after looking at the Harris Hawk Forum and photos, I do not believe mine are Harris Hawks. The tails of mine have a band of white and are definitely more black in overall color, they also look bigger in size than the Harris Hawk.

Harris Hawks are somewhat variable in color, but your excellent photos are essentially textbook. The white end of the tail as well as vent covers are normal for adult birds.

I am living in Coos Bay. Loving it so far, even all the rain we are getting

These are definitely Harris’s Hawks. The pair staying together like this are also something they do that most other hawks don’t. They live and hunt in family groups.
